PSK-31 QSO with ND0K last night on 80m

A nice QSO with Lee ND0K near Kansas City, MO. I was running my Small Wonders Lab
PSK Warbler. It is a nice little 3 watt unit dedicated to PSK. I had it connected
to my 40 foot VHF tower shunt loaded for 80m. (We are a two tower QTH here...
a VHF/UHF tower and separate HF tower with a 160m shunt.)

This was my first QSO using my new PC running Ubuntu 9.04 CQRLog, and gMFSK. (I
have gMFSK dedicated to the warbler rig. FLDigi to the Icom 756 and Elecraft K2 rigs.)

Once I get my full log imported in CQRlog I will try to use HTML export feature so
that I can try to post on the website for people. (Yeah I know... I need to get
Log Book of the World setup as well.)

QRP kit for $19

I saw
an interesting post on the Soldersmoke blog
for a new QRP rig.

http://www.genesisradio.com.au/Q5/

It looks like a
1w kit with about 40 parts. They have a for video on site showing it in action. It
looks like it is possible to push this to a whopping 3w.

Currently they offer
kits for 10.116mhz and 3.56mhz. They plan to have radios for 80,40,30,20 respectively.
(hmmm... no 17m?)

$20US + $9 for shipping.

I will probably
order a couple of these for my son as he likes to help with the iron.

It would be better
is this was a transceiver... but I can't imagine that it would be that hard to brew
up a receiver to go with this.

Scalloped Potatoes - Mom's Recipe

This recipe makes 4-6 servings.  Adjust accordingly for the number of people
to be served.

2 pounds potatoes (about 6 medium)

1/4 cup finely chopped onion

3 tablespoons flour

1 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon pepper

1/4 cup butter or margarine

1/2 cup milk

Heat oven to 350.  Wash potatoes; pare thinly and remove eyes.  Cut potatoes
into thin slices to measure about 4 cups.

In greased 2-quart casserole, arrange potatoes in 4 layers, sprinkling each of the
first 3 layers with 1 tablespoon onion, 1 tablespoon flour, 1/4 teaspoon salt, dash
pepper and dotting each with 1 tablespoon butter.  Sprinkle top with remaining
onion, salt and pepper and dot with remaining butter.

Heat milk just to scalding; pour over potatoes.  Cover; bake 30 minutes.
Uncover; bake 60-70 minutes longer or until potatoes are tender.

Let stand 5 to 10 minutes before serving.

Crockpot Scalloped Potatoes

Here is the first recipe that I am going to try:

6-8 large potatoes, peeled

1/2 onion, chopped

1/2 green pepper

1 garlic clove (I used garlic powder)

3 c. milk

1 tbs. dijon mustard

4-5 tbs. flour (adjust accordingly)

salt, pepper and garlic powder to taste

shredded cheese (optional)

Melt the butter, slowly add the flour, then blend in the rest of the items.

I peeled my potatoes and then ran them thru the food processor to slice them up.

I then layered the potatoes, sauce, and cheese a couple of times. Then topped it with
shredded cheese.

I stated the recipe from the link:

http://troyerslovinglife.blogspot.com/2009/04/recipe-crockpot-scalloped-potatoes.html

I then added some items on my own. It is cooking right now. I should know more in
4-5 hours.
